Within the elegant brushstrokes of the Victorian era, this stately 1889 heritage terrace has gently yielded to modernity through a measured design intervention that retains its graceful poise while bestowing contemporary context. Through the undoing of an 80s/90s renovation, the transformation of the kitchen and bathrooms, and the procurement of furniture and lighting pieces that reconcile past and present while fusing two disparate client aesthetics, Victoria House’s grandeur has been poetically rewritten.
From its tumbled marble entry, cabochon flooring cut from travertine slabs, ornate timber stair banisters and intricate plasterwork that nod to the home’s origins; the singular curation of exceptional collectible art; the replacement of downlights in preference for softer, more delicate pieces; the unexpected Italianate expressions and striking textiles that abide by no specific era and, contemporary pieces that fuse with their surroundings through tone and integrity, Victoria House has been resurrected as an elegantly enduring and functionally resilient home.
